Scan, you're it!
SeQRity! is a hybrid virtual-real team game where two teams, equipped with health points and QR code scanners, battle for victory. Each team consists of a Hunter and a Seeker. The Seekers must find the Jackpot QR code in the room, while the Hunters try to drain their health points. Once a QR code is scanned, the scanned codeword (e.g. "Schabernack") must be entered at the station. However, the code only counts if the following mini-game is completed within the time. But that's not all – at random intervals, all roles switch, turning Hunters into Seekers.
Don't get caught and find the Jackpot QR code!
Experimental hybrid design
The biggest challenge in this experimental jam was the limited real-life setup — we couldn’t program a full phone to PC interface in under three days. So, we turned that limitation into a strength by using the QR-code scanners already built into our phones. During the game’s startup phase, the station registers codes and tracks names, roles, health, and code types, continuously comparing them against an internal code library.
I programmed most of the system and implemented many assets to make them functional in engine.
