Pantomime like it’s from another planet!
Alien Talks is a dynamic outdoor team game that blends pantomime, competition, and creative communication. It was developed as part of Experimental Jam 2, a game jam focused on designing innovative, resource-efficient games for outdoor spaces.
The challenge: to create a new and experimental gameplay concept that works with minimal materials, maximizes fun, and pushes the boundaries of conventional game design.
Working in a team of four, we created a fully playable physical game supported by a clear, professional rulebook. The result was "Alien Talks" – a fast-paced group experience built for four or more players aged ten and up.
Two-player teams, each consisting of an “Actor” and an “Observer,” compete simultaneously. At the start of each round, a category is announced – for example, “Movies” or “Animals.” Actors then move away from their Observers, based on a rolled number of steps, and quietly agree on a secret word.
After a start signal – which includes a small verbal hint – both Actors begin miming the word while walking back toward their teammates. The first to cross the finish line and tag their partner earns the chance to guess. If the word isn’t guessed, there’s a second round where Observers move halfway forward and mime the word themselves.
Roles switch after each round. The first team to win five rounds takes the victory.
Alien Talks promotes movement, imagination, and team spirit. It requires only a die and enough space to play – making it ideal for parks, schoolyards, or gym halls. Its low barrier to entry and flexible structure make it an inclusive and fun experience for any group setting.
